Here, we will explore the origins of Hippolyta-1, or the "Amazon Virus," as many of you may know it. Twenty years ago, it was designed to be a temporary boost in strength intended for military purposes. Early tests showed that it had a comparatively marginal effect on male volunteers, boosting them to peak human levels of strength. However, further tests showed that it had an even greater effect on female volunteers. The smallest exposure increased their strength to that of the men who had been given a full dosage.
Wanting to test the limits of full exposure, the young woman pictured here, Subject Zero, was placed into a large chamber where she would be given full exposure to the virus. Almost immediately, she experienced a sudden increase in muscle mass, reaching the same levels as the male volunteers. Shortly after, her size had doubled, gaining even more mass and height than what should be scientifically possible. Yet she still kept growing...
Subject Zero began clutching her head as her size increased. She was experiencing dizziness, most likely caused by the effects of her rapidly changing body. The scientists began the process of stopping the experiment, but an unfortunate malfunction caused even more of the virus to flood the chamber. Her size exploded as she was now triple her normal height, and her muscles were well beyond human limits.
The chamber could no longer hold her as she tore through it. Her mind was flooded with rage as she rampaged through the facility, inadvertently exposing the scientists and other test subjects to the virus. Eventually, she made her way outside, and I'm sure you all know the rest.
Over the next few years, the governments of the world had to contend with an onslaught of towering amazons, all the while trying to find and capture Subject Zero. Thankfully, fatalities were few and far between as the infected women were only interested in spreading the virus.
Of course, Subject Zero was eventually caught, and after a lengthy process, a cure was created and spread across the planet. All infected women had regained their senses, though their increased mass hadn't completely gone away.
Now, most of the female population stands a head taller than they did twenty years ago, and they can even outcompete most men in sports. However, a smaller percentage of them are, well, much taller than that.
Speaking of, I'm sure some of you are wondering about what happened to Subject Zero. Well, I can say with certainty that I'm doing just fine! Just need to finish a few more years of community service... I mean, it wasn't all my fault, but I did kinda start the whole thing, so... yeah.
